Assistant Professor Dr. Qasim Abdul Karim Al-Obaidi, Head of the Scientific Affairs Department, participated with a scientific lecture titled "Geotechnical Challenges of Unsaturated Collapsible Soils." Lecturer Dr. Iyad Hamid Al-Muhammadi, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, also presented a specialized lecture titled "Improving the Mechanical and Chemical Properties of Soil Using Additives (RHA, FA, GGBS) with Different Mixing Methods."
This came during the academic scientific symposium titled "Modern Methods for Treating Collapsible Soils," which was organized by the Iraqi Geotechnical Scientific Society at the College of Engineering – Samarra University on Thursday, 4-12-2025, and in cooperation with Projects and Reconstruction Department – University of Baghdad, and under the patronage of Al-Askari Holy Shrine.
The symposium was attended by a wide number of academic and scientific figures from various Iraqi universities, in addition to representatives from engineering companies and media outlets.
The symposium's themes emphasized the importance of developing scientific and technical solutions to deal with the problems of collapsible soils, which are among the most prominent geotechnical challenges facing infrastructure projects in Iraq, especially in light of the increasing need to construct safe and sustainable facilities based on solid engineering principles.
