The Fourteenth Goal: Life Below Water

Achieving Goal 14 of Sustainable Development at Al-Turath University: Life Below Water

Al-Turath University recognizes the importance of conserving marine resources and their vital role in supporting the ecological balance on Earth, and therefore works diligently to support Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which focuses on “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”. Through its academic and community activities, the University seeks to raise awareness and support scientific research on marine life protection.

First: Education and Awareness on the Importance of Marine Life

Al-Turath University provides its students with courses and educational programs focusing on the importance of marine life and its biodiversity. Students are guided to identify different marine species and understand their role in maintaining ecosystem balance, which contributes to developing their awareness about the importance of protecting oceans and seas.

Second: Supporting Scientific Research Related to the Marine Environment

The University encourages scientific research aimed at studying and protecting the marine environment. Students and faculty members conduct research on the impact of marine pollution and climate change on underwater life, which contributes to providing solutions to address the environmental challenges threatening marine biodiversity.

Third: Partnerships with Environmental Organizations

The University works to build partnerships with local and international environmental organizations concerned with protecting oceans and marine life. This collaboration provides University students with opportunities to participate in awareness and field campaigns focusing on coastal clean-up and reducing marine pollution.

Fourth: Awareness Activities and Environmental Initiatives

Al-Turath University organizes awareness events and activities that contribute to protecting marine life, such as campaigns to reduce plastic use and encourage recycling, given the impact of plastic on oceans and marine organisms. The University also encourages its students to participate in beach and coastal area clean-up campaigns.

Fifth: Promoting Green Technology

The University works to promote the use of green technology and sustainability techniques within the campus, such as more efficient resource utilization and waste reduction, which positively impacts the reduction of environmental pollution that reaches the oceans and affects marine life.
