Scouting in Iraq

Scouting in Iraq is considered an educational youth movement that aims to promote national values, discipline, cooperation, and the development of personal and collective skills. Iraqi Scouting was founded in the early 20th century and gained widespread fame as a means to foster teamwork and national belonging among youth. Scouting relies on a variety of activities such as camping, volunteer work, life skills training, and environmental guidance.

Objectives of the Scout Movement:

These are the scouting locations in Iraq:

Forest Camp – Mosul: A famous place for scout camps thanks to its nature and spaciousness.
Al-Zawraa Park – Baghdad: A location for urban activities such as workshops and small camps.
Najaf Plateau: Suitable for desert scouting trips and challenges.
Kurdistan Mountains: Ideal for camping and coexisting with nature, especially in Sulaymaniyah and Duhok.
Tigris and Euphrates Riverbanks: Locations for rafting and environmental exploration.
Al-Qurnah – Basra: A symbolic location at the confluence of the two rivers, suitable for cultural and environmental activities.

Scouting in Iraq embodies an effective means of creating a conscious and responsible generation that interacts positively with society and nature.

Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, with direct supervision from the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority, and with the support of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Ali Al-Ugaili, Al-Turath University's Department of Student Activities participated in the National Forum for the Great Challenge Competition, held in Mosul Governorate and hosted by Al-Turath University. The University secured third place, and gifts were distributed by the University to people of determination for their prominent role in the competition. The University was represented by Mr. Ali Al-Emara, Director of the Student Activities Department, and Mr. Salam Maddah Karim, Governance Officer.
