With the support and guidance of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Ali Al-Ukaili, and as part of the strategy of the Architecture Engineering Department at Al-Turath University to promote academic openness and exchange scientific expertise, the University organized a joint scientific trip in cooperation with Baghdad University, in an event considered the first of its kind between the two universities, aimed at exploring the civilizational and architectural depth of Nineveh city and its surroundings, with the participation of a group of students from both departments.
The trip included visits to several prominent archaeological, religious, and historical sites that reflect the diversity of civilizations in northern Iraq, including: Nimrud (Kalah), Khorsabad, Hatra Kingdom, Lalish Temple, Mar Behnam Monastery, Church of the Hour, Al-Tahira Church, Al-Nouri Mosque, Prophet Jonah's site, Prophet Seth's site, Qara Saray Castle, Bashtabiya Castle, Al-Qali'at city, Riverfront Project, Baituna Foundation, and Mosul Heritage House. During the visit, students received direct field explanations which helped connect theoretical aspects with practical application.
The organizers of the trip affirmed that this event represents a practical step to deepen students' understanding of spatial identity and historical architecture and to consolidate academic cooperation between Iraqi universities in a way that serves the scientific and research path.
A number of professors from both universities also expressed their appreciation for the high level of organization and the role played by the specialized staff at the archaeological sites, pointing to the importance of this experience in providing a unique opportunity for students to directly observe a civilizational heritage spanning thousands of years.
The Architecture Engineering Department at Al-Turath University extends its thanks and appreciation for the continuous institutional support from the University presidency, for the contribution of Baghdad University, the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, and all parties that contributed to the success of this scientific trip.
