The Scientific Assistant of Al-Turath University, Prof. Dr. Omar Saad Ahmed said that international ranking methodologies vary yet converge on core pillars led by research strength research quality indexing venue level and measurable impact with sustained influence across the institution He noted that publishing in Scopus and Web of Science forms the foundational layer through which the University consolidates its international profile because a university professor’s role extends beyond teaching into applied research that serves society and Iraq.
The University’s Scientific Affairs Assistant reviewed that the University’s rapid transition from very limited figures to a large publishing body was enabled by the guidance and unrestricted support of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Ali Al-Ogaili through strategic and five-year planning and through building a research environment supported by advanced laboratories internationally oriented lab development digital library resources and database subscriptions that empower faculty to produce rigorous indexable research.
Prof. Dr. Omar Saad Ahmed added that the University is pursuing a structured plan to expand high-quality output and strengthen its position in global rankings with an institutional objective of reaching the top 500 worldwide in Times Higher Education and QS based on measurable standards.
The University’s Scientific Affairs Assistant also highlighted the Ali Al-Ogaili Research Award approved by the Ministry as a model that treats research as a societal service rather than paperwork noting that it targets international researchers not only local participation and will rely on international evaluation pathways with prizes for leading ranks to stimulate rigorous publishing and position the University as a research attraction platform.
Prof. Dr. Omar Saad Ahmed concluded that the required shift is not merely increasing numbers but embedding a modern research culture aligned with the Ministry’s internationalization direction supported by training financial and moral incentives and an applied laboratory environment that equips researchers with the tools to deliver credible outcomes.
