Al-Turath University’s Academic Achievement: Researcher Contributes to Oil Refinery Wastewater Treatment Study

Al-Turath University recorded a new scientific milestone adding to its expanding academic record via publishing a specialized research by a faculty member in the Department of Oil and Gas Refining Engineering, College of Engineering, Ms. Marwa Mohsen Jiyad, the study was published in the recognized international journal (Environmental Technology Reviews), issued by Taylor & Francis, which holds a high academic reputation with a CiteScore of 6.9 for 2023 and is ranked in Quartile 1 (Q1) within the Scopus indexing database.

The university added that the research was conducted in collaboration with the faculty members at Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering, University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Abbar and College of Engineering, University of Al-Qadisiyah, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zaid Jabbar within the framework of joint academic cooperation among Iraqi universities.

Al-Turath reviewed that the study focuses on the application of advanced wastewater treatment technologies for oil refineries, employing electrochemical and photocatalytic processes (Electro-Fenton & Photo-Catalytic Processes) to achieve the 6th Sustainable Development Goal, which emphasizes ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The university highlighted that scientific achievement reflects the College of Engineering at Al-Turath University's strong keenness on enhancing scientific research and developing innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental challenges associated with the oil industry, reaffirming its active role in supporting sustainable development and protecting of natural resources.
