Considering the vision of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Turath University, Mr. Ali Al-Ogaili on establish a healthy and safe university environment, the University continues to strengthen the culture of prohibiting smoking within the campus as an institutional choice that reflects ethical and health responsibility toward students and staff, as well as embodying the follow-ups and repeated campus tours, during which he affirms that the University is a space for knowledge, discipline, and mutual respect, and that safeguarding public health is an integral part of the institution’s academic identity.
The Continuing Education Center, in cooperation with the College of Dentistry, organized a scientific lecture entitled (Smoking with Periodontal Disease) delivered by Dr. Taif Mahdi Salih addressed the direct relationship between smoking and periodontal disease, highlighting its harmful effects on oral tissues and its role in aggravating inflammation and related complications.
The lecture also reviewed different types of smoking, with particular focus on electronic smoking, analyzing its increasing risks to oral health amid widespread misconceptions that present it as a safer alternative, the lecturer emphasized the necessity of addressing the issue from a preventive scientific perspective grounded in medical evidence.
The event was attended by a number of interested professors from various scientific departments, in a clear affirmation that health and societal behavior issues are a shared cognitive responsibility, and that when the University addresses phenomena from their scientific roots, it does not merely convey information, but builds awareness and shapes culture. In this way, Al-Turath University proves that its decision to ban smoking is not just an administrative regulation, but an integrated vision that links science with behavior and places human health at the forefront of its institutional priorities.
